About Ina Rawa NZ Skincare Range About Ina Rawa NZ Skincare Range

Posted on by Lesley Armstrong

Ina Rawa originates from Whangarei, also home to ShopNZ.

It's a story of a young man with a dream to fuse the essence of the New Zealand people, culture and nature, culminating in the creation of the Ina Rawa Skincare Range, helped along in his venture by the NZ Young Enterprise Scheme.

Whangarei's diverse nature fueled Brendan's inspiration for a product range that captured its essence, and showcased to the world the natural beauty and richness of New Zealand. He wanted to integrate New Zealand's finest botanicals into a simple everyday skincare routine, so those botanicals would be used and enjoyed. And so the idea of Ina Rawa was born.

With a commitment to quality, he created products certified for the European market and marked with the New Zealand FernMark, a trademark officially recognised and endorsed by New Zealand Government. FernMark is a mark of trust that communicates a product's country of origin and connection to New Zealand.  The unique Licence number (100730) makes it easy for you to verify its authenticity.

Ina Rawa's philosophy incorporates Maori business philosophies, namely Putake (reason for being), Turanga (foundation), Kaitiakitanga (guardianship), and Matatika (ethics).

Putake - sharing New Zealand with the world, through unique skincare products.
Turanga - Ina Rawa was grown from Ngaratunua, in Whangarei.
Kaitiakitanga - Ina Rawa takes pride in using recyclable packaging made from sugarcane, reducing the impact Ina Rawa has on the natural environment.
Matatika - Ina Rawa ethically sources its ingredients, none of which are tested on animals. The skincare is exclusively produced in New Zealand to maintain strict control over workers' rights and the origin of their raw materials.

KEY INGREDIENTS

Kawakawa
The Kawakawa tree's lovely heart shaped leaves are renowned for their medicinal benefits. Maori traditionally used the leaves as a poultice, and to apply to skin ailments. It was sometimes chewed to soothe toothache.
The leaves give off an anti-inflammatory response that is soothing and helps with rashes, skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, and blemishes.

Manuka Honey
Manuka Honey has world-renowned skincare benefits. It is a natural humectant, meaning that it can draw moisture into your skin and prevent it from drying out straight away after it has been applied.  Natural enzymes in the honey also help the moisture get down to the deep layers in the skin.

Manuka Honey also has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities, so it is perfect for reducing inflammation and acne, as well as soothing irritated skin.

Kumarahou
Medicinally, kumarahou was used by Maori for treatment of coughs, colds and sore throats. It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties, and its leaves and pretty yellow flowers can be rubbed together to create a natural, gentle soapy lather that does not damage the skin's natural moisture barrier.

Ina Rawa aims to contribute to embracing Māori knowledge and culture to help progress towards a prosperous and thriving Māori population. Spreading awareness around rongoā (Maori healing through plant remedies) helps legitimise and share the benefits of integrating indigenous knowledge.
